Australian Weeds Committee - Newsletter No. 4. September 21, 2005 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- COMMENTS REQUESTED ON REVISION OF NATIONAL WEEDS STRATEGY ISSUES PAPER The above issues paper has been released and is available for comment at the website listed below: http://nws.rince.net It is a web based paper and comments can be made directly up until Friday 7th October 2005. The issues paper has been compiled from several National workshops and client surveys conducted over the last two months. The responses to the issues paper will be a major contribution to the revision of the National Weeds Strategy document which is expected to be released for public consultation in November. The revision is necessary because many of the strategies in the previous version has been completed and the requirements for weeds management in Australia have changed significantly as a result of the implementation of the original National Weeds Strategy. If you are concerned about the weed invasion of Australia, then we urge you to contribute to the Strategy. The original strategy is available on the Weeds Australia Website for reference. The use of these attributes will ensure that datasets are comparable over time enabling users to quantify changes to weed distribution for whatever reason. They will be particularly useful as the basis of dataset which can be used for project evaluation and where a project is required to provide data under Natural Heritage Trust and/or “Defeating the Weed Menace” funding. Users are not limited to these attributes as it is encouraged to include additional fields/attributes for describing other elements of the program, such as chemical treatments, efficacy of control methods etc. It will be possible to incorporate datasets using the core attributes into the future weed mapping program. This is particularly important for the twenty Weeds of National Significance. The Australian Weeds Committee would appreciate receiving any comment or feedback on the core attributes in order that they may be continuously improved Contact - John Thorp - jthorp@jta.com.au www.weeds.org.au/awcnews.htm --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To subscribe to this newsletter or remove an existing subscription, please visit our subscription management facility at http://www.jta.com.au/mailman/listinfo/awcnewsletter/ Legal Notice - http://www.weeds.org.au/disclaimer.htm
