Public Consultation for Weeds of National Significance Strategies
The AWC invites people interested in the WoNS species to comment on the revised strategies.Reviews of every WoNS species have been undertaken in order to understand the current status of each species and ensure that ongoing action is effective. Each strategy has been updated by the species management group and a draft placed on the web in order to gain feedback from stakeholders. Anyone wishing to comment should follow the link below, which will lead to all of the drafts currently available and their consultation closing date.
Two new Biological Control Targets Approved
The Australian Weeds Committee approved Siam weed and sea spurge as Targets for Biological Control as they are supported by all jurisdictions. They have been added to the Weeds Australia website, at the link below. This emphasises the importance of the species and should encourage funding which increases the likelihood that suitable agents may be approved in the future.
WoNS Update 2010 (black book)
The update has been published and copies are available. It is available on the web at the link below.The update is a 45 page, colour A5 booklet containing a 2 page summary of actions relating to each species. Coloured pictures are used to highlight strategic actions and assist in identification of the species. A very readable publication aimed at land managers across Australia
