The committee recently agreed on 15 core attributes for mapping weeds and these are available on the website below:http://www.weeds.org.au/awcnews.htm
People intending to map weed distribution are requested to use these attributes as they will allow the use of the dataset in National maps as required. The use of these attributes will ensure that datasets are comparable over time enabling users to quantify changes to weed distribution for whatever reason.
They will be particularly useful as the basis of dataset which can be used for project evaluation and where a project is required to provide data under Natural Heritage Trust and/or “Defeating the Weed Menace” funding.
Users are not limited to these attributes as it is encouraged to include additional fields/attributes for describing other elements of the program, such as chemical treatments, efficacy of control methods etc.
It will be possible to incorporate datasets using the core attributes into the future weed mapping program. This is particularly important for the twenty Weeds of National Significance.
The Australian Weeds Committee would appreciate receiving any comment or feedback on the core attributes in order that they may be continuously improved
