SOME RESOURCES TO HELP IDENTIFY WEEDS

The following books provide pictures and descriptions of plants that you can compare with your specimens for correct identification. They are available from book stores or libraries and are useful starting points.

New Zealand:

An Illustrated Guide to Common Weeds of New Zealand (second edition) by Bruce Roy, Ian Popay, Paul Champion, Trevor James, Anis Rahman (2004), New Zealand Plant Protection Society.

If you are having difficulty identifying a plant or telling the difference between closely-related plants you can use special guides or plant keys. These plant keys and botanical guides require you to work through a series of questions about plant features to get a correct name. These keys use specialised botanical terms and can be difficult to use.
